Nothing Says “I Love You” Like Melamine [toxic body paint recall]
Melamineis a chemical (a plastic) that can be added to foodstuffs such as flour and milk to increase their nitrogen content, which simulates a high protein content. It is used to pass off poor quality ingredients as higher-value nutritious products. Although this practice was known to be widespread, particularly in China, for years it has more recently had more serious effects.
The problem with melamine is not just that it is not nutritious, when it reaches high levels in the body it forms crystals in the kidneys as they try to clear the toxin from the blood–these effects can be fatal. Last year melamine in pet foods killed thousands of animals. And then, a few months ago, melamine in baby formula sickened babies in China and killed at least four (potentially many more).
And it seems the contamination is even more widespread than this because as more products are tested all around the world, more melamine is found, in cookies, candy, cheesecake, pizza dough and even coffee products and canned meat. Recently thousands of animals raised for fur in China were killed with what appears to have been tainted feed. Because the melamine contamination related to staple products and may be very widespread–although in most cases only at very low levels.
The most recent product found to be tainted are pens, paints and spread in a range called “I Love You” (in chocolate and strawberry flavors: see picture). The contamination was detected in the UK where the range is sold in Anne Summersstores, but it is stocked internationally–as far away as New Zealand. This could give a while new meaning to a ‘poisoned pen letter’. So if you have some of these body condiments now would be the time to bin them, or returm them as most stores are offering refunds.
Don’t be too worried though. According to experts to be in any danger you would need to be imbibing about four packets a day. If your sex life is that active and that orally-fixated, good on you–and get yourself to a doctor and take any remaining product with you for testing.
Good to know about those body pants…I was at a sex toy party this past weekend and almost bought some! Anyways, love your blog.
If you want to tell someone that you love them through a gift, it’s best to play it safe….
